Between Living And Dreaming

(2004) World Movies, 10.15pm

An amusingly whimsical role for Spanish screen favourite Carmen Maura, who plays Ana, an accomplished professional cook locked in a boring marriage with a demanding husband and rebellious daughter.

Ana announces she is taking up an offer to host a Spanish cookery course in Paris, though her real intention is to rekindle a teenage holiday romance with the charming Pierre Langlois (Thierry Lhermitte) from 30 years ago.

However, she finds herself out of place in Paris until Jean-Francois (Alex Brandemul), an eccentric florist and the landlord of her small apartment, decides to help in the quest to find the Pierre of her dreams.

Brilliant Beasts: Dog Genius

National Geographic, 7pm

Piano-playing dogs ("no, both paws if you want your reward"), skateboarding dogs, Frisbee-leaping dogs ... there are dog owners all over the world who believe their pets are geniuses.

This program suggests that everything a dog learns in the first six months stays with them for life. But there are dog trainers - particularly with seeing eye dogs - who go much further than that.

See how scientists measure the value of various wags of the tail.
