Drama Movies
Drama movies are a film genre that tends to focus on the emotional journey and actions of an individual character/s, conveying some important event or crisis in their life. Often drama movies are given the highest credibility in the film industry with many of the international film awards being given to dramas and dramatic actors.
There are literally hundreds of drama concepts and conflicts that have been played out in the movies, with some of the central themes ranging from personal adversity and conflict between characters, prejudices and intolerance, addiction, inner conflict, outer conflict such as war and violence and greater society issues.
Essentially, drama movies are the serious representation of some personal or greater crisis that faces an individual, showing the great emotional range that a person can face through difficult times of their life.
What’s more, drama movies are often used to represent social concerns and dramas of the time, acting as an outlet for the film producers to comment or express an opinion on major issues.
The range of drama movies when blended with other genres has massive potential for audience appeal, with drama being a key component in many established genres. Some of the most common dramatic blends with other genres include the romantic drama, tragedy, comedy drama, melodrama, legal drama and historical dramas with many directors and films using historical and political events and backdrops as the setting for their drama.
Over the last decade, the academy awards best picture awards have usually gone to the drama movies with some of the most notable being Gladiator, No Country for Old Men and Slumdog Millionaire.
