Synopsis

Stanley Kubrick is back with another terrifying movie that is set to again scare audiences. “The Shining”, a novel written by Stephen King, has been expertly translated into the silver screen version with prominent actors to portray the characters found in the book. If you are in search for a more intense, stimulating, nerve-wracking movie; something so intense that it may cause you to have sleepless nights, worrying that you may experience your very own “The Shining” syndrome, watch The Shining.

What is good about the movie is that even though it’s a bit intricate and that you need to always be on your toes, following the story as it chugs and chops along, it is absolutely great and is still pretty intense even after all these years. But just a reminder for the moviegoers, take a deep breath first before watching the movie. Every scene, from beginning till the end, is quite breathtaking.

The film revolves around a family that moved for the winter to Overlook Hotel, a hotel in a secluded area, faraway from their original place. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), the dad, would be working there as the hotel’s caretaker. But even before Jack had finally accepted the responsibility, Mr.Ullman (Barry Nelson) warned him of its history. He gave him an idea about the horrifying events that happened previously and the people that had gone dead and were buried in time. But these past hotel incidents did not deter Jack because he thought the place would allow him to get some writing done.

Danny Torrance (Danny Lloyd), the son of Jack has the ability of seeing horrible images in his mind. These images are believed to have a gleaming power that is why it is called “the shining”. His ability of seeing the past provided answers for Jack’s unanswered questions about the events that happened in the hotel, events that he never really took seriously.

The climax starts to unfold when Jack began seeing for himself the spirits that Danny was telling him about. But he refused to let Wendy, his wife, know about it. These spirits then start to drive him crazy. And soon enough, Jack, seemingly possessed, starts to go after his own family.

“The Shining,” with its memorable visual style, is just another example of Kubrick’s awe-inspiring skills.
