Synopsis

'Jaws', a 1975 classic thrillerby renowned director Steven Spielberg, features a Great White Shark on a man-eating frenzy. The phenomenal thriller was based on a best-seller by novelist Peter Benchley. The novel itself was inspired by a series of real shark attacks along the New Jersey coast in 1916.

The story revolves around the chain of terrifying events that occurred in Amity Island, a quiet east-coast neighborhood that springs to life every summer as tourists flock on its scenic beaches. The town is torn between sustaining the local businesses fueled by tourism, and protecting the people from the horrifying shark attacks. A newly-installed police chief and a marine biologist joins a local fisherman turned professional shark hunter in a brave effort to put an end to a Great White Shark's killing frenzy.

'Jaws' was lauded for its superb appeal to the emotions, unparalleled story-telling, and gripping suspense. 'Jaws' boasts of a grim monster that is often described through conversations. Viewers are made to feel and believe that no one is safe in the vastness of the ocean since those monstrous jaws could snap at anyone, anytime.

'Jaws' was a huge success, and eventually became a top grosser with a worldwide profit of more than $470 million. The shark thriller made its mark in the modern film history and started the Hollywood trend of creating summer blockbusters, adventures, and thrillers.

'Jaws' skyrocketed Steven Spielberg's filmmaking career, advancing his status from a talented young director to the king of box office hits. The film is a compelling reflection of Spielberg's ability to entertain and assure a great movie experience for his viewers.

The film has been one of the most reviewed, noted, and recommended movies of all time. It was succeeded by three sequels, "Jaws 2" (1978), "Jaws 3-D" (1983), and "Jaws: The Revenge" (1987). However, Spielberg did not work on any of them.

More than twenty-five years after it was released, 'Jaws' still has the capacity to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. It remains as horrifying and convincing to viewers despite the emergence of today's more advanced science fiction horrors.
