Synopsis
Pixar gives us another animated masterpiece, with their fifth feature-length film, Finding Nemo. Somewhere, beyond the sea, we find Marlin and Dory on an adventure to find the little clownfish Nemo, who was caught by a scuba diver, and is now stuck in a fish tank with a giggling gaggle of fishes. As the unlikely tandem of chronic worrywart Marlin and forgetful carefree Dory swim through the ocean, they meet fish-friendly sharks, surfer dude turtles talking ala-Jeff Spicoli of Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Like... Whoah), and a plethora of other sea creatures along the way. All this is set against a picturesque panorama of deep blue, sprinkled with swaying sea plants and schools of fish in vivid shades of the rainbow. A delight for the eyes, Finding Nemo is a fun-filled family movie - another smash hit for Pixar.
Aside from the colorful variety of ocean life, Finding Nemo amuses us with the light comedic banter between Marlin and Dory. Voiced by Albert Brooks and funny gal Ellen DeGeneres, Marlin and Dory allow audiences to laugh at every tight scrape they get into - swimming away from crazed sharks and predator birds, jumping on jarring jellyfish - with fish puns and jokes thrown here and there. Meanwhile, in the tank/prison, Brad Garret, Allison Janney, Austin Pendleton, and Stephen Root, entertain the sad and panicky Nemo, (voiced by young Alexander Gould) with their hilarious antics and silly arguments. With all drains leading to the ocean, the fish tank gang try to reunite little Nemo with his father, and escape the menacing Darla, niece of the dentist/scuba diver. When will father and son see each other again?
Just like any Pixar family funfare, there is that touching moment in Finding Nemo when all audience members go "Aww..." The brave father and the scrappy son, with their supportive fish friends make for a movie that's sure to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling even if you're surrounded by the wet under the sea universe. Proclaimed Best Animated Feature by the Oscar's in 2004, anything can happen in this whale of a tale - just keep swimming, and you'll find many surprises along the way.
