Synopsis

What does it take to make a movie compelling especially one that is a sequel to a masterpiece? The movie Aliens sure knows the right recipe as it didn’t fail to give the same thrills as its precursor.

Aliens is a 1986 sci-fi, horror, action, thriller film directed by James Cameron. It narrates the story after the incidents in Alien, the 1979 film directed by Ridley Scott. Intense and mind-blowing, Aliens takes you to a wild and fiery ride as the crew of the Sulaco warship fights a fearsome battle against a powerful force in order to stay alive.

Fifty-seven years after surviving an alien attack that killed all of her teammates in the Nostromo expedition, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) was recovered and revived from hypersleep. Her alien encounter story, however, was received with cynicism and official charges against her had forced her to give up her pilot license.

Ripley was also informed that the place, LV-426, where the alien attack occurred, was transformed into a colony. With the exception of Ripley, no one had ever imagined what lives among the seemingly peaceful terraforming colony, until communications from the colony suddenly ceased. The nightmare had begun again. Called to accompany the warship Sulaco and a unit of Colonial Marines as an adviser in inspecting the area, Ripley joined hands with the crew to eliminate the aliens once and for all.

Headed by Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Henn, Michael Bien, Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton and Paul Reiser, the movie, Aliens, proved that it deserve its place alongside its brilliant predecessor. The special effects are fantastic. The movie had also successfully agitated and sent chills up to everyone’s spine as it intended to. The movie developed the characters well including the side characters, whereas in some horror movies, side characters are just there for the evil creatures to feast on. The movie’s characterization of the people in the story helped the movie in arriving at its intended reaction from the people. Having distinct personas, people are immediately caught up in watching what they are to do in a situation and in doing so people are also immediately involved in the story--feeling what the characters are feeling may it be angst, fear or relief.
